Saints lose at Dodge City 92-67

DODGE CITY, Kan.- Seward County Community College was unable to get established on the road with a 92-67 loss to Dodge City Community College and the Saints drop to 2-5 overall and in conference play. Seward County trailed by as much as 34 points on the road and was unable to establish an offensive flow.

To start the game the Saints trailed 7-4 and this was the closest Seward got to the Conquistadors for the remainder of the game. Dodge City went on a 9-0 run to take a 16-4 advantage but an answer by Erik Pratt with back-to-back threes to get the Saints within four points at 18-12. A 14-2 run for the Conquistadors gave them a 32-14 lead and this is the separation that created the great divide between the two teams. 

The Saints had 15 turnovers in the game that led to 22 points for the Conquistadors in the first half and Seward lost the rebound battle in the first half 19-10. At halftime, Seward county trailed 52-31 and Ahamadou Sillah led the team at the break with 7 points off of the bench. 

In the second half, the Saints were looking to dig themselves out of the deficit but Dodge City continued to add to the lead. With less than 15 minutes to go in the game, the Conquistadors took their largest lead of the game and led by 34 points, 71-37. Both teams started a heavy rotation and Dodge City remained in the lead with a 20 point advantage. 

Seward County's Mike Rivera led the Saints with a season-high 11 points and added five rebounds. Other top scorers tonight were Jordan Chambers with 10 points, and Ahamadou Sillah had seven points against Dodge City.

The Saints will look to put this behind them and focus on their next opponent which is Hutchinson Community College on Saturday at 6 pm in the Greenhouse.
