Seward County Announces Formation of Hall of Fame

With a storied history of success and countless deserving candidates and teams, the Seward County Athletic Department has officially announced that it will open a Saints Hall of Fame with their inaugural class being inducted in the Spring of 2012.

After initial discussion about starting a Hall of Fame and hammering out all of the many details that go along with it, the final decision was made this week to officially launch the process of receiving nominations and getting things ready for the 2012 opening class.  The first Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Friday April 20th in conjunction with the annual Saints Athletic Banquet.

To get as many different viewpoints on possible candidates, Hall of Fame committee members encompass many different areas of the Liberal and Seward County community.  The committee members are: Kent Colvin (Saints Booster Club President), Galen McSpadden (Seward County Athletic Director), Roy Allen (Seward County Sports Information Director), Dale Reed (Seward County Administrator), Brock Kappelman (Liberal Area Media Member), Charles Brownlee (Saints Booster Club Board Member), Toby Wynn (Seward County Athletic Department Member), and Jay Hay (At-Large Community Member).

Nominations will be taken until October 1st of the current year, with any nominations received after that date, considered for the following year.  Nomination forms will be available on the Seward County Athletics website www.scccsaints.com or in the Athletic Department office on campus.

After receiving all of the nominations for the given year, candidates will then be voted on by the Hall of Fame committee.  For induction to the Hall of Fame, candidates must receive 66% of the total number of votes possible.  Candidates failing to receive more than 5% of the vote over a five year period or fails to receive a vote in two consecutive years will be removed from the nomination list.

The following criteria will be used in determining the strength of the nominee:

- Competed 2 years at Seward County Community College or turned professional.

- Distinguished athletic career as evident by individual honors, i.e. All-Region, All-American, etc.

- Played at the four-year level or played professionally.

- Career following attendance at SCCC also to be a consideration, i.e. Olympic competition, professional career, and public service.

- Academic standards including undergraduate and post-graduate attainment.

The following criteria will be factors in determining the strength of nomination for a team:

- All teams must wait a mandatory 10 years before being considered.

- Extraordinary accomplishments, i.e. NJCAA Championship or postseason performances, record setting performances, school history ‘firsts’.

- National Championship teams are automatic selections into the Saints Athletic Hall of Fame after the 10 year waiting  period.
