Saints Esports Playoffs (Fall 2024)

December 12, 2024

LIBERAL, Kan. –

Results from Tuesday 12-03-24

It was a tough night for the Saints in the first round of Fortnite and Madden playoffs.

Moran was against Trinidad State College and had a difficult time stopping the TSC player's passing game, giving up big yardage plays. Moran fell on the night 0 - 2. Moran is graduating this Fall semester and will not return for the esports team in the spring. Coach Volden said, "We're going to miss Dwayne. He's been a good leader and a great player for us while he's been here. He's great at Madden and one of the anchors on our Rainbow 6 team. We wish him the best of luck in the future."

Henry Perez and Osiel Ventura had a similarly tough time against Northwest Tech. They won the first match handily, but the NWT came on hot the rest of the evening, ending their post-season hopes with a score of 1 - 3. Perez and Ventura will regroup after holiday break and make another run for a title in the spring.

Saturday Night 12-07-24

The Fortnite team of Luis Ortiz and Juan Pablo Chacon took on Connors State College at 5pm Saturday night.  The Saints dominated the match from the very beginning, scoring nearly double the frags the CSC team did in the first two matches. The third set was a nailbiter, but the Saints came away with the win.  Ortiz and Chacon continue their undefeated season and will play this week in the next round.

Landon Davis had his next round of Madden NFL against Iowa Western Community College.  Davis had no trouble with his opponent and won the set 2 – 0. Powdrill struggled against Eastern Georgia State College in a back and forth set.  After trading games, Powdrill was unable to stop Baltimore and the Derrick Henry run, ending the night 1 – 2.

Alexis Saustegui started off the night playing Smash Brothers against SW Wisconsin Tech.  He soundly defeated the SWWT player, 3 – 0. His next opponent was SUNY Jefferson.  Saustegui had a hard time defending against Jefferson player's attacks and took a loss 0 – 3.
