Lady Saints Go 1-1 Against Fellow Top 25 Squads

It was a step in the right direction for the #14 Seward County Lady Saints Friday afternoon in Oklahoma City as they took the court against #22 Jacksonville and #13 Collin County.  Seward earned a solid 6-3 win over the Jaguars in their first match before dropping a hard fought 5-4 decision to Collin to wrap up the day.

To kick things off in the tournament, Seward went up against #22 Jacksonville in Oklahoma City.  Seward grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles action as the Lady Saints got a default win at #3 doubles and a dominating 8-1 win at #1 doubles by 2nd ranked Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos to go in front early.  In singles action they continued to play well, getting 6-0, 6-1 wins from both Lopez and Coyos at the top of the lineup to seal the match and a 6-7 (11), 6-2, 10-2 win from Kellyn Peters at #3 singles to seal the match win.  Jacksonville earned the points at #4 and #5 singles, but the Lady Saints took the default point at #6 to take the match 6-3.

#14 SEWARD COUNTY/#22 JACKSONVILLE MATCH RESULTS

In their second match of the day it was a battle of #13 and #14 as the Lady Saints took on Collin County.  All three doubles matches in this one were lopsided as Lopez/Coyos again had no trouble at #1, winning 8-2 to remain unbeaten on the year while Collin got the best of Seward at #2 and #3, both by 8-1 scores to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.  The Lady Saints two Argentinian stars again shined at #1 and #2 singles as 3rd ranked Lopez defeated 25th ranked Sommer Champion 6-1, 6-1 at #1 and 10th ranked Coyos barely broke a sweat in a 6-0, 6-0 win over 38th ranked Julianna Hess to briefly put Seward in front 3-2.  The lead didn't last long for the Lady Saints though as Collin cleaned up at the bottom of the lineup, winning #4, #5, and #6 singles without dropping a set to clinch the match win as they went in front 5-3.  The most competitive match of the day came at #3 singles where Peters outlasted Collin's Nine Bwyala 6-2, 7-6 (4) to wrap things up and make it a 5-4 final in favor of the Cougars.
