16 Seward Student-Athletes Honored in Record NJCAA Academic Award Class

If classroom performance is any judge of it, there are going to be a record number of former NJCAA student-athletes making their mark on the working world in two years as the NJCAA announced on Wednesday that a record 2,026 athletes, including 16 Seward County Saints and Lady Saints from six different teams have earned NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards, formerly known as the NJCAA’s Academic All-American award.
Oakden & Mawhinney Lead Six Lady Saints on All-Jayhawk Team

Following a 36 win season that included a 2nd place finish in the Jayhawk West Conference race, six Seward County Lady Saints were named to the All-Jayhawk West Team as released by the league on Monday.
Lady Saints Season Ends at Region VI Tourney

It most certainly wasn’t the way that they wanted it to end, but as fate had it, the Seward County Lady Saints were the first ones out of the Region VI Championships in El Dorado this weekend, falling 6-4 in their opener to Garden City before being eliminated by Butler in a 13-5 run rule on Saturday.
Seward Slips Past Pratt Into Final Four

The Seward County Lady Saints kept their fans on the edge of their seats once again on Thursday afternoon at Lady Saints Field in Liberal, squeaking past visiting Pratt 2-0 in the deciding game of a best of three series with the Beavers in the 1st Round of the 2015 Region VI Tournament. Seward advances to the Final Four of the tournament where they will take on Garden City Saturday at noon in El Dorado.
Seward and Pratt Split to Force Winner Take All Game Thursday

It looked like it would be a walk in the park for the Seward County Lady Saints Wednesday as they took on the last place team in the Jayhawk West in the Pratt Beavers, a team that they had swept all four times in their regular season matchups in the 1st round of the 2015 Region VI Tournament. It was quite a different story however as Seward never got going in game one of the best of three series, watching the Beavers score three times in the top half of the 7th inning to stun them 3-1. In game two Pratt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning but the Lady Saints responded with an offensive onslaught this time, eventually run ruling Pratt 11-3 in five innings to force a winner take all game Thursday at Lady Saints Field in Liberal.
Rapoza & Wagner Named West Player & Pitcher of the Week

A pair of Jayhawk Conference awards came pouring into Liberal Tuesday afternoon as Lady Saints Joe Ann Rapoza and Jaclyn Wagner were named the Jayhawk West Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Seward vs. Pratt Softball Playoff Series Postponed

Due to heavy rain in the Liberal area, the Seward County vs. Pratt Region VI Softball playoff series has been pushed back from Tuesday to Wednesday at Lady Saints Field in Liberal. The Lady Saints and Beavers will get action underway at 1:00 Wednesday with a doubleheader followed by the if necessary game at 12:00 on Thursday.
Seward Finishes Regular Season With Split at Colby

Needing to pick up some momentum before the upcoming Region VI Playoffs, the Seward County Lady Saints managed to only spin their wheels Wednesday afternoon in Colby as they split with the homestanding Lady Trojans, losing game one 6-2 before winning the night cap 4-2 to finish the regular season 34-22 overall and 15-9 in Jayhawk West play, good for 2nd place.
Seward All Over Pratt in Region VI Preview

In what was a preview of the 1st round of the upcoming NJCAA Region VI Playoffs which begin next Tuesday at venues across the Sunflower State, the Seward County Lady Saints had little trouble with the visiting Pratt Beavers Monday afternoon in Liberal as the gals in green swept a doubleheader from the Beavs, winning game one 10-3 before shutting Pratt out in the nightcap 3-0.
Lady Saints Clinch Home Field For 1st Round Playoff

The Seward County Lady Saints struggles late in the season continued Saturday afternoon in Dodge City as the gals in green managed only a split against a Dodge team that had lost 9 of its last 10 games. A slow start but a big finish propelled the Lady Saints to a 7-3 win in game one of the doubleheader while a five run 2nd inning for Dodge City in the second game led the Lady Conqs to a 14-11 win to split the doubleheader. At the end of the day, there was some good news for the Lady Saints who are now just 3-7 in their last 10 games, as their game one win wrapped up home field advantage for Seward in the 1st round of the Region VI Tournament.
Lady Saints Falter in Key Matchup With Butler

In a key Jayhawk West late season matchup that would more less decide where the 2015 Region VI Softball Tournament would be played in two weeks, the Seward County Lady Saints came up on the short end of both sides of a twinbill with the rival Butler Grizzlies in El Dorado as Butler used a six run 3rd to run rule the Lady Saints 9-1 in game one before using a dominating pitching performance in game two to win 4-1 and all but eliminate Seward from contention in the conference race.
O'Brien's Perfect Game Highlights Lady Saints Weekend in Lamar

While she has had a spectacular rookie season for the Seward County Lady Saints, nothing could prepare Alexa O’Brien for what was about to happen this weekend in Lamar, Colorado as Seward took on Otero and Lamar in a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. Friday the Lady Saints struggled and were swept 4-3 and 7-0 by Otero, but Saturday, O’Brien got Seward back on track, throwing the first perfect game in Seward County history in a 13-0 win over Lamar. The Lady Saints backed up the perfecto with a 7-4 win over the Lopes in their final game of the weekend to earn their 30th win of the 2015 season.

Midway through the conference season, the Jayhawk West trophy was right in front of the Seward County Lady Saints noses. Going into Wednesday’s conference tilts with 6th place Garden City, Seward didn’t expect it to be any different coming out of the doubleheader but boy were they wrong. The Lady Saints were shocked by the Busters, as they were shutout 3-0 in the opener of the doubleheader and were pounded 8-0 in run rule fashion in the second game to fall out of 1st place in the conference race.

Lady Saints Trade Run Rules With Barton

Going into Friday’s Jayhawk West doubleheader action, the Seward County Lady Saints and Barton Lady Cougars were the two hottest teams in the league, having won a combined 15 straight games. After Friday’s double dip, neither team had a winning streak to brag about any longer as Barton hammered the Lady Saints 12-4 in a six inning run rule victory in game one before the Seward returned the favor in game two in an 8-0 shutout win to split the doubleheader.
Andrea Gustafson Earns 500th Career Win in Seward Sweep

Sitting at 490 wins coming into a stretch in which her Seward County Lady Saints were set to play 8 of 10 games at home in Liberal before a 13 game road stretch, things had to fall just perfect for Seward Head Coach Andrea Gustafson for her to get her 500th win at Lady Saints Field in Liberal. Well the stars aligned and after Seward’s 9th and 10th straight wins, Gustafson was drenched by the traditional cooler of water after her team’s games on Wednesday as Seward swept visiting Dodge City 7-0 and 8-2 to give the 13th year Head Coach her 500th career win.
