Seward County bounces back after a first round loss in Sub Regional action

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College made a late push against Neosho County Community College but falls short 10-7 in the first round of the Region VI Tournament. The Saints bounced back in their second game on Friday with a 24-10 victory over Cloud County Community College to advance to day two of the Sub-Regional.

Despite the loss, Seward County Community College Saints Varsity did collect 11 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Neosho County had 14 hits on the way to victory.

The Saints tallied four runs in the ninth inning with a pair of singles by AJ Folds and Samuel Miller and a double by KP Werner.

Sam Berberich took the loss from the mound with four innings pitched, allowing seven runs on eight hits, and striking out one.

With the loss, the Saints fell into the backside of the bracket and will have to win the rest of their games to advance to the Semifinals of the Region VI Tournament.

In the second game of the day, the Saints offence bounced back with a 24 run performance. 

Seward County had 20 hits in the game and the entire team contributed from the plate. Richard ArmijoWyatt Grant, KP Werner, Braden Boisvert, AJ Folds, Johnathan Cantu, and Kase Johnson all collected multiple hits in the win. Armijo went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Saints in hits in the game.

The Saints had two home runs in the game as AJ Folds had a four-run home run in the third inning, and Boisvert hit another one in the second inning.

Mason Martinez got the win for Seward County as he went five innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out seven. Dylan Lopez threw two innings to close out the game for the Saints.

Seward County put together their best offensive performance at home this season in an elimination game and advances to the second round of the backside of the bracket.

The Saints will take on the loser of the first game on Saturday with Kansas City Kansas Community College taking on Neosho County.
