Seward County reclaims second place in the West

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College swept Pratt Community College at home on Saturday with an 11-0 victory followed by a 13-1 win. The Saints re-claimed second place in the Jayhawk West with an 18-10 conference record and 23-21 overall. Seward County had 24 runs on 24 hits to propel them to two victories.

In the first game of the day, the Saints jumped out early with five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Wyatt Grant got it started with a three-run home run to score KP Werner and Kase Johnson. Two batters later George Gallardo connected on a two-run home run to left field that scored AJ Folds to give the Saints a 5-0 lead.

Seward County continued its offensive excellence in the bottom of the second inning with a run scored after Braden Boisvert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The next batter, AJ Folds hit an RBI single to score Kase Johnson and Wyatt Grant to give Seward an 8-0 advantage. Richard Armijo reached an error and scored AJ Folds and George Gallardo to lead 10-0.

The Saints added one more in the fourth inning with a solo home run hit by Peter Goldy. The Beavers could not get their offense going against the Saints as Pratt had two hits in the shortened fifth inning game. 

Mason Martinez took the win for Seward County went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, and striking out nine.

In the second game of the day, Seward County once again jumped out to an early lead. Sam Berberich singled to score Wyatt Grant, George Gallardo followed up with an RBI single of his own to score Braden Boisvert. AJ Folds followed up with a double that scored Berberich and Gallardo to give Seward an early lead.

Gallardo continued his offensive success with a double in the bottom of the second inning that scored KP Werner and Johnson as Seward held a 7-0 advantage. In the top of the third, the Beavers were able to get on the board with a fielder's choice that scored the runner from third.  

Seward County extended their lead in the fourth with a two-run home run from Wyatt Grant that scored Kaase Johnson and gave the Saints a 9-1 lead. To start off the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run from Peter Goldy and Braden Boisvert followed up with a single that scored Richard Armijo and Kase Johnson to give the Saints a 12-1 advantage. 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints scored one more run with an RBI single from KP Werner that scored Goldy to give Seward a 13-1 lead. The Saints forced the ten run rule in the seventh inning that gave Seward the 13-1 final score.

Eric Turner received the win for the Saints and went six innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three.

The Saints will end the regular season with a four-game series against Garden City Community College that starts on Thursday at 1 PM in Liberal, Kansas.
