The Saints win their 11th straight but the Cougars take the last game of the series

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Seward County Community College wins the series 3-1 over Barton Community College after a split in Great Bend. The Saints extended their winning streak to 11 with a game one win 4-2 but fell in game two 10-6. Seward County remains tied with Butler Community College for second in the Jayhawk West with a 13-7 conference record and a regular-season record of 17-15.

In the first game of the day, Seward County was able to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning with a solo home run from Landon Anderson. This was Anderson's third home run of the series and his fourth of the year. The Cougars responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 advantage over the Saints. KP Werner connected on an RBI single to score Anderson in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Seward County regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning with a Braden Boisvert RBI single to score Kody Bigford from third. Peter Goldy followed up with an RBI single of his own to score Werner from third and to give the Saints a 4-2 lead.

Mason Martinez closed out the bottom of the seventh inning with three straight outs and the Saints won their 11th straight game. Martinez pitched all seven innings with two earned runs, on six hits, and had seven strikeouts. With the win, Martinez improves to 3-0 on the season.

In the last game of the series, Barton came out and scored in the bottom of the first inning on a fielding error on the Saints. Seward County responded in the top third inning with a Braden Boisvert double that scored Landon Anderson and KP Werner and the Saints led 2-1. Barton responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third inning to regain the lead 3-2.

The Cougars added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and led the Saints 6-2. A triple by Richard Armijo scored Reed Thomas from first base and Seward County trailed 6-3. The Cougars responded immediately in the bottom of the sixth with three runs and took their largest lead of the game 9-3. 

Braden Boisvert connected on a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning and cut the lead down to just three runs with the Cougars ahead 9-6. Both teams would go scoreless and the Cougars claimed a 9-6 victory in game two. 

Dylan Day started the game for the Saints and went three innings with two earned runs, four hits, and two strikeouts. Colt Bartling came into the game in the fourth inning and took the loss with three earned runs, five hits, and three strikeouts.

Seward County will be back in action on Tuesday, April 13th at Frank Phillips for one nine-inning game at 1 pm.
