Saints Season Comes to a Close with Run Rule Loss

Saints Season Comes to a Close with Run Rule Loss

The Seward County Saints saw their 2017 season come to a close Saturday afternoon at Tiger Ballpark in Arkansas City, losing a 12-2 run rule contest to Cowley to end their season at 17-38.

The game started just how Friday's contest did between the two as a 1st inning Seward error allowed Cowley to put up three in their first at bats of the day to take a 3-0 lead.

Another Saint error allowed the Tigers to go ahead 4-0 and four more Tiger runs in the 4th blew the lead open to 8-0.

The Saints finally got on the board in the 5th as Brian Tims smacked a single though the left side to make it 8-1 and Cody Stineman led off the 6th with a long home run to cut the Tiger lead to six at 8-2.

Cowley answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th and after the Saints went scoreless in their half of the 7th, the Tigers finished Seward off, scoring twice on just one hit to kick in the run rule in a 12-2 Cowley win.

The Tigers outhit the Saints 11-7 in the game and took advantage of four Seward errors which allowed five unearned runs.  Tims and Stineman each had two hits and an RBI to wrap up their Seward careers.  Ethan Earhart took the loss to fall to 3-6 on the year, allowing seven hits and eight runs in just three innings worked.

Seward fails to make the second week of Region VI play for the second straight season, the first time in program history for that to happen.  The Saints season comes to a close at 17-38 overall, their lowest win total since 1990 when they played just 45 games.
