Wins Record Falls As Saints Soar Past Barton & Iowa Central

The Seward County Saints set a program record Monday on the road in Great Bend, downing Barton 8-1 and Iowa Central 9-0 to post their 14th and 15th wins of the season, breaking last year's record haul of 14 wins.

Seward took on the 16th ranked Barton Cougars in their first match of the day.  Doubles play got things going and it didn't take the Saints long to grab a commanding lead in the match.  Carlos Anez and Ondrej Nice took an 8-4 decision at #1 to get Seward on the board and Duro Opacic and Przemek Zielinski won 8-2 at #2 to make it 2-0 Saints.  Ben Finet and Renato Santos finished off the doubles sweep as they won an 8-3 decision at #3 to give the Saints a 3-0 lead into singles.

In singles it was more green and white.  Anez cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 while Claudio Quinones won 6-2, 6-1 at #3 to seal it for the Saints.  Ngoni Makambwa, Diego Friere, and Dane Mechali all picked up straight set wins at the bottom three spots in the lineup for the Saints as well.  Barton took their only point at #2.

The Saints dominate the Cougars 8-1 for their 14th win of the season while Barton falls to 4-5 on the year.

#4 SEWARD COUNTY/#16 BARTON BOX SCORE

The Saints second match of the day came against a first year program in Iowa Central.  It wasn't very competitive between the perennial power Saints and the new kids on the block from Fort Dodge.  Seward lost just three total games in doubles play to push out to an easy 3-0 lead.

In singles it was more of the same as Renato Santos, Finet, Mechali, and Lautaro Monardo each blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 for the Saints while Opacic and Zielinski cruised to wins at #1 and #2 to finish off the 9-0 sweep .

The win sets a new program record for wins in a season as Seward improves to 15-3 on the year.
