Seward Flies Past Eagles 9-0

Seward Flies Past Eagles 9-0

The #4 Seward County Saints got back on the winning track Tuesday afternoon, hammering visiting Southwestern Christian 9-0 to snap a four match losing streak on the hard court.

A late venue switch to the Saints on-campus courts didn't seem to faze them at all as Seward picked up a pair of quick wins in doubles action with Carlos Anez and Ondrej Nice teaming up for an 8-1 win at #2 and Alvaro Rengifo and Felipe Casares doing the same at #3 to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.  The closest match of the day came at #1 doubles where Przemek Zielinski and Tare Mariga knocked off Jose Nino and Rodrigo Reyes by an 8-4 final to give the Saints a doubles sweep over the Eagles.

Singles action was fast and furious as Mariga bagled Stephen Baker 6-0, 6-0 at #4 and Casares didn't even need to finish his first set before his opponent retired at #3 to clinch the win for Seward.  Zielinski brought a personal drought with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #1 and Ngoni Makambwa breezed past Reyes 6-2, 6-0 at #2 to keep the Saints perfect on the day.  The bottom of the Saints lineup took care of business as well as the always animated Rengifo won 6-1, 6-1 at #5 and Zach Zuico downed Lucas Spitaleri 6-2, 6-3 at #6 to complete the 9-0 victory.

Seward improves to 14-6 on the year with the win while Southwestern Christian drops to 5-4.  The Saints will be tested quite a bit more this weekend as they head to Plano, Texas to take part in the Collin County Bash.
