Saints Drop Second Straight

After getting off to a 12-0 start, the #4 Seward County Saints have hit a minor speed bump, losing their second straight match in heartbreaking 5-4 fashion Wednesday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to NAIA #13 Ouachita Baptist.

The Saints grabbed a quick 2-1 lead after doubles action against the Tigers, getting an 8-5 win at #2 from Carlos Anez and Ondrej Nice as well as a default win at #3 for the early advantage.

In singles Seward struggled though.  Anez was swept in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 at #1 while Przemek Zielinski fell in a hard fought match 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4 at #2 as Ouachita took the lead in the match.  Nice took a tough defeat at #3 as well, dropping his match by matching 7-6 scores.  Alex Mosehle and Ngoni Makambwa both pulled out 10-2 third set tiebreak wins at #4 and #5 for the Saints to give them a chance to win, but Felipe Casares was unable to do the same at #6, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to give the Tigers a 5-4 victotry.

The loss is the second straight for Seward who falls to 12-2 on the year.  The Saints will continue a tough stretch on Friday in Oklahoma City when they take on #13 New Mexico Military in the opening round of the Seminole State Dual Match Classic.
