Saints Blast Bethel & #13 Bethany in Doubleheader

Saints Blast Bethel & #13 Bethany in Doubleheader

The #4 Seward County Saints are red hot and not even the #13 ranked team in NAIA could change that Friday as the Saints traveled to Newton and Lindsborgh for a split double header, blasting Bethel and the 13th ranked Bethany Swedes by scores of 9-0 and 8-1 to improve to 9-0 on the season.

As most Seward matches have gone this year, the Saints barely needed to break a sweat against Bethel in their opener. Przemek Zielenski and Alex Mosehle won 8-1 at #1 doubles while Ondrej Nice and Felipe Casares breezed to an 8-0 win at #2.  Seward completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-1 win from Ngoni Makambwa and Alvaro Regnifo at #3 to go into singles play in front 3-0.

The Threshers were again no match for Seward in singles action as the Saints swept all six spots, winning in straight sets at every spot including 6-0, 6-0 wins by Makambwa and Casares at #3 and #4 to wrap up a 9-0 sweep.

#4 SEWARD COUNTY/BETHEL MATCH RESULTS

In their second match of the afternoon, the Saints made a short trip over the Lindsborgh to take on the #13 Bethany Swedes in what figured to be their toughest match to this point in 2016.  It wasn't.  Zielenski and Mosehle picked up their second win of the day with an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles while Nice and Carlos Anez won 8-6 at #2 to put the Saints up 2-0.  Seward lost their first point of the day in a nailbiter at #3 doubles with Bethany winning 9-8 (3) to cut the Saints lead to 2-1 into singles play.

Makambwa and Casares made up for their doubles defeat by each earning points in singles at #5 and #6 to make it 4-1 and Nice sealed the win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #4 singles for the Saints.  Anez and Mosehle cruised at #1 and #3 respectively while Zielenski trailed 3-6, 5-5 at #2 before his opponent retired to end the match and give Seward an 8-1 win.
