National Championship Preview No. 3 Lady Saints vs No. 1 Navarro College

HUTCHINSON, KS.- Seward County Community College volleyball team punched their ticket to the National Championship match for the first time in history and will take on No. 1 seeded Navarro College at 6:30 PM in Hutchinson Kansas. 

After an instant classic performance on Friday night, the Lady Saints defeated No. 2 Miami Dade in a 5-set thriller 3-2 with the set scores 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 22-25, and 15-8. Both teams played with passion and determination but the Lady Saints outlasted the Sharks to advance to the National Championship match for the first time in program history. 

Waiting for the Lady Saints are the Bulldogs from Navarro College. They are the No. 1 team in the tournament and currently sitting at an undefeated 30-0. The Mid-South District A champions have already defeated No. 16 Monroe 3-1, No. 8 Hillsborough 3-0, and defeated the No. 5 seed Polk State 3-0 in the semifinal match. 

The Bulldogs are led offensively by their sophomore Jordan Lockwood that is averaging 4.7 points per set (8th in the NJCAA), and 3.9 kills per set (12th in the NJCAA). Defensively Navarro has the sophomore middle in Deja Arnold, this season averaging 105 blocks per set (6th in the NJCAA), and 141 total blocks this season (13th in the NJCAA).

The Lady Saints are led offensively by freshman Yanlis Feliz averaging 4.6 kills per set (3rd in the NJCAA), 5.3 points per set (2nd in the NJCAA) and a hitting percentage of .451 (7th in the NJCAA). Defensively for the Lady Saints it is freshman Mesalina Severino averaging 1.24 blocks per set (18th in the NJCAA) and with a total of 133 blocks this season (18th in the NJCAA).

Previous meeting for these two programs happened last year (2018) in Tyler Texas on September 28th with the Lady Saints fall in 5-sets but Sophomore Djuly Schmorantz had her career match with 27 kills that still remains her best performance.
