No. 6 Lady Saints continue road stretch at Pratt

PRATT, Kan. – The No. 6 Seward County volleyball team will play their seventh straight road game on Wednesday (Oct. 4), when they travel to Pratt to take on the Beavers at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Saints have won eight straight contests and are perfect in Jayhawk play.

Head Coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen's team went 4-0 over the weekend, playing in the Tyler Invitational.  They came away with wins against Wharton County (3-1), No. 13 Navarro (3-2), No. 8 Hill (3-0), and Tyler (3-1).

The Lady Saints (22-1, 7-0) are currently dominating the Jayhawk West, leading the conference in kills (1,144), kill per set (13.95), attack percentage (.279), assists (994), assists per set (12.12), service aces (191), service aces per set (2.33), digs per set (17.30), blocks per set (2.52), points (1,542) and points per set (18.8). The kills per set and points per set also lead the country.

Individually, Mariana Nascimento (.441) leads the Jayhawk West in attack percentage, while ranking 2nd in the nation.  Luz Sierra (1.60 blocks/set) leads the conference in blocks per set, and ranks third in the country.

The Lady Saints are led on offense by freshman right side Giovanna Tapigliani (3.34 kills/set) and redshirt sophomore Viviane Viana (3.00 kills/set). Sophomore setter Giovanna Kuntze puts the Lady Saints in place to score, averaging 10.40 assists per set. 

Seward had three players averaging over three digs per set – Nathiellen Machado (3.74), Briana Domino (3.31) and Viana (3.15).

Pratt (6-19, 2-7) is coming off their third straight loss after falling to Barton 3-0 on Monday.  Their two conference wins have come against Barton (Sep. 6) and Cloud County (Aug. 30).

Lexi Schamberger leads the Beaver attack, with 2.21 kills per set.  Setting up the Beaver hitters is Taylor Groen-Younger, who averages 5.35 assists per set.  Defensively, Pratt is led by Naomi Warren (3.05 digs/set) and Paige Brown (2.95 digs/set).  Magesty Fairley (.50 blocks/set) and Stephanie Reichenberger (.45 blocks/set) hold down the net for the Beavers.

The Lady Saints have won two straight against Pratt, with their last loss coming in a five-set loss in Pratt in 2015. Seward holds a 22-7 all-time record against the Beavers.  The match will be broadcast live on the Pratt Community College YouTube channel.
