Nascimento Earns First Career Player of the Week Honor

Seward freshman Mariana Nascimento stepped her game up to another level this week as the Lady Saints played four of their six matches against top 20 ranked foes, earning her, as announced Wednesday, Jayhawk West Player of the Week honors for week six.

Nascimento had a huge week for the Lady Saints going up against some of the best teams in the country this week.  A force on both sides of the net, Nascimento averaged nearly 3 kills per set and hit .436 offensively while also stuffing an average of 1.22 attacks on the defensive side.  Monday in a huge Jayhawk West win over Hutchinson, Nascimento had 10 kills and 6 blocks for the Lady Saints.  After solid matches against Colby and #5 Panola, she put together three straight huge contests in the Tyler Invitational, banging home a then career high 14 kills with 5 blocks against Navarro, backed that up with 13 kills and 3 blocks in an upset win over #12 San Jacinto, and ended the week with a career high 16 kills and 8 blocks against the #3 team in the country in Missouri State-West Plains.

Nascimento and the Lady Saints get back into Jayhawk West play tonight as they travel to Towanda where they will take on Butler at Circle High School at 6:30.
