GAMEDAY in the GREENHOUSE: Seward County vs. Hutchinson Volleyball

MATCH PREVIEW:

It's the match of the year in the Jayhawk Conference tonight as the Seward County Lady Saints host the Hutchinson Lady Blue Dragons with first place in the Jayhawk West standings on the line.

Hutchinson has owned the rivalry of late between these two and that continued early this season as the Dragons downed Seward 3-1 in the Sports Arena in Hutch.  Liberal native Jai Chapman lit up the Lady Saints with 16 kills for the Dragons in the win while Alex Wood led Seward with nine kills in the defeat.

The Lady Saints collected a 3-0 win over Dodge City on Monday to move into first place in the Jayhawk West Conference standings at 9-1.  Seward is 20-9 overall, having won 13 of their last 15 matches.  The Lady Saints put together an 11 game win streak to close out September, marking their longest such streak since the 2002 season.  The Lady Saints offensive attack has become more diverse during their hot streak as four players now average over two kills per set, the only team in the Jayhawk West to boast that number.

Hutchinson has had a brilliant 2015 thus far but has run into a tough patch of late.  The Dragons have dropped three of their last five matches after a 15-1 start including a shocking defeat on the road at Colby on Monday snapping a 29 game Jayhawk West winning streak.  Hutchinson is led by Jai Chapman who averages 3.01 kills and 3.13 digs per set, the only player in the league to average over three kills and three digs per set this season.
