GAMEDAY in the GREENHOUSE: Seward County vs. Colby Volleyball

MATCH PREVIEW:

The second round of Jayhawk West Conference Volleyball action kicks off tonight in the Greenhouse as the Seward County Lady Saints host the Colby Lady Trojans.  Tonight marks the second meeting of the season between Seward and Colby after the Lady Saints roared back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Lady Trojans 3-2 in the two teams conference openers.  Alex Wood led the Lady Saints with 16 kills in the win while Megan Sharratt chipped in nine kills for Seward.  In a losing effort, Colby got a 19 kill, 11 dig double-double out of superstar Aleksandra Malek.

Seward County is playing unquestionably their best volleyball of the season right now, having won nine straight and 12 of their past 13 matches.  Seward wrapped up the first half of conference play 7-1, good for 2nd place, just one game out of the top spot and two games up on the rest of the pack in the league race.  Much of the Lady Saints success can be attributed to the next gear that outside hitter Alex Wood has cranked her game into.  Wood is averaging over four kills per set in Seward's last six contests and is hitting just under .400 in the span.

Colby was on a roll with four straight conference wins before dropping three of four to top notch Division II competition over the weekend in Kansas City.  The Trojans are just 8-10 on the season but are 4-2 in West action where they currently sit in 3rd place behind Seward and Hutch.  The Trojans sport the leagues top hitter in Aleksandra Malek who leads the Jayhawk West and ranks 7th nationally in kills this season at 4.00 per set.
