Seward County won 5 out of the 7 draws in Plano

PLANO, Tex. - Seward County Community College women's tennis program won five out of the seven flights this past weekend in Plano, Texas. The Saints won four singles flights out of the five total flights and won the two double flights. This was the final tournament of the fall season for Seward County but Justine Lespes will travel to Rome, Georgia to compete in the ITA National Tournament this weekend. 

In the singles draws the Saints had four individuals in the championship match with three victories. Lespes won flight one with three straight victories including a  7-5, and 6-4 to claim the championship. Carol Mora won her first match in the first flight but fell in her next two matches.  Chiara Matteodo lost in the first round of the second flight but her next match and fell in the consolation match. Lucia Popluharova competed in the third flight and won her first two matches but fell in the championship match 6-2, 6-3 to teammate Camille Belberka. Belberka won her first two matches 6-0, 6-0, and 6-2, 7-5 to get to the championship match. 

Saskia Vogelzang won her first two matches to make it to the championship match, where she won 6-2, 6-2. Alejandra Sandoval and Jimena Ramirez both won their first two matches in the singles flight number five. Sandoval defeated Ramirez 7-5, 6-4 to win the championship match. 

In doubles, Camille Belberka and Justine Lespes won every match to claim the doubles flight one championship. Mora and Sandoval made it to the championship match of the second doubles flight and faced off against teammeates Matteodo and Popluharova who also won their first two matches. Sandoval and Mora won the championship match 8-2.

Lepses will travel to Rome, Georgia this week to compete in the singles draw of the ITA National Tournament on Thursday, October 14th.
