Women's Tennis starts fall season in Tyler, Texas
TYLER, Tex. - Seward County Community College competed this weekend at the Tyler Junior College Invite in Tyler Texas. This invite had NCAA Division II, Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA programs competing against each other in brackets and pool play. Seward County placed as high as third place in singles with Chiara Matteodo and won the backside of the draw with Carol Mora Camacho in the second flight.
In flight one Justine Lespes won her first match but lost in the semifinals that landed her in the third-place match. Lespes was met by the reigning champion in one single from Tyler Junior College but lost in the third set tiebreaker 10-4. Carol Mora Camacho competed in the second flight but lost her first two matches but won her final match 6-1, and 6-0 to claim the consolation title.
Chiara Matteodo competed in the third flight and won her first match in a third-set tiebreaker but fell in the semifinals to go to the third-place match. Matteodo won her third-place match due to her opponent retiring for injury purposes. In the fourth flight, Lucia Popluharova lost her first match and dropped her next two matches on the backside of the draw. Camille Belberka competed in the fifth flight but lost her first two matches and the final match was not played due to time.
Saskia Vogelzang lost her first match in the sixth flight and got a bye to the finals of the backside of the draw but lost 6-1, 6-0. Maria Alejandra Sandoval competed in the eighth flight and won her first match but fell in her final two matches to go 1-2 on the weekend.
In doubles, the Saints had Lespes/ Belberka and Matteodo/ Popluharova in the first flight. Both of the doubles teams won their first match but lost their second match to fall to the third-place match. They did not play this match to allow other matches to take place. Mora Camacho and Sandoval lost their first match in the second flight of doubles but won their first match in the backside of the draw. They lost in the final match of the backside of the draw 6-3 and went 1-2 on the weekend.
The Saints will be back in action on September 10th and 11th at Metro State University in Denver Colorado.
