Cougars & Tritons No Match For Lady Saints

The #6 Seward County Lady Saints cruised to a pair of wins Monday in Great Bend, hammering #17 Barton 8-1 before blanking Iowa Central 9-0 to improve to 12-4 on the year.

 

The Lady Saints began the day against the host Barton Cougars and it was all Lady Saints in doubles action to start the match.  Thalita Rodrigues and Lisa Suzuki won 8-3 at #2 and Sarah Manseri and Steffany Bermudez took an 8-2 decision at #2 to put the Lady Saints up 2-0.  An 8-4 win by Tadi Mrewa and Madison Hoelting finished up pairs play with Seward in front of Barton 3-0. 

 

There were two three setters in singles action, with each side picking up a win.  Rodrigues outlasted Neus Torregosa 10-5 in the third to take the point at #1 while Idah Longwe took an 11-9 third set at #4 for Barton to give the Cougars their first point.  Seward dominated all of the other spots as Manseri won 6-1, 6-2 at #2, Hoelting won 6-1, 6-0 at #6 to seal the win for Seward.  Martina Borges and Fernanda Santana both took straight set victories at #3 and #5 to finish up the day for the Lady Saints, giving Seward an 8-1 win in Jayhawk Conference play.

The Lady Saints took on a shorthanded Iowa Central squad that featured just three players in their second dual of the day.  Only one doubles match was played as 2nd ranked Rodrigues and Bermudez took the court for the first time together this season for an 8-0 win to give Seward a 3-0 lead. 

 

Manseri, Borges, and Hoelting were the three Lady Saints to see court time in singles play, each taking straight set decisions to finish off the easy 9-0 win for the gals in green.

Seward improves to 12-4 on the year with the two victories.  The Lady Saints will play Barton again at the Seminole State Duals on Friday morning in Oklahoma City before a likely showdown with Seminole State later that afternoon.
