Lady Saints Stumble Opening Weekend

Lady Saints Stumble Opening Weekend

Playing with a team full of fresh faces, the Seward County Lady Saints struggled in their opening day of competition for their 2015 Fall season.  The Lady Saints dropped a pair of 8-1 decisions, losing to Oklahoma Baptist and Seminole State on Saturday.

Oklahoma Baptist had their way in doubles action in Seward's 2015 opener.  The Bison cruised to an 8-1 win in #1 doubles before securing 8-4 wins at #2 and #3 to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.  OBU picked up dominating wins on the book ends of singles play at #1 and #6 to seal the match win and also earned straight set victories at #2, #3, and #5 to open the gap.  The Lady Saints lone win of the match came at #4 where Nthabi Mogopodi came away with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Ashlynn Abbe as Seward fell 8-1.

Things wouldn't get any easier for the Lady Saints in their second match of the afternoon as they battled perennial NJCAA title contender Seminole State.  Seminole dominated doubles play, sweeping the board with 8-1, 8-2, 8-2 wins to take the 3-0 lead.  It didn't get any prettier for the gals in green in singles play where once again Mogopodi was the only Seward player able to rise to victory as she downed Jacie Talbot 7-5, 7-5 in #5 singles to salvage the Lady Saints lone point of the match as Seminole went on to win 8-1.

Seward begins the fall season 0-2 and will look to get things on track this weekend as they travel to Oklahoma City to take part in the highly competitive Seminole State Classic.
