Lopez & Coyos Named ITA All-Americans

Following phenomenal freshmen seasons, Seward County's Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos have been named ITA All-Americans in their Monday release of the prestigious teams.

Lopez earned the All-American nod at both singles and doubles, winning a school record 57 matches during her rookie season.  She finished the year ranked 6th in singles and 4th in doubles with Coyos after finishing 5th in singles and 3rd in doubles at the NJCAA National Tournament.  She won tournament titles at the Bethany Invitational, Metro State Invitational, and Region VI Tournament this season and finished 3rd at the ITA National Tournament in the fall and runner-up at #1 singles at the Region VI Tournament.  She was also named the ITA Region III and National Rookie of the Year this season.

Coyos finished the year with a flurry to earn All-American honors in doubles with Lopez.  She won 54 total matches during her freshman year, ranking her 2nd in school history only to Lopez.  She won both a singles and doubles championship at the Metro State Invitational in the fall and paired with Lopez for a 3rd place finish at the ITA National Tournament in doubles.  She won Region VI Championships at both #2 singles and #1 doubles this spring and finished 3rd in both brackets at the NJCAA National Tournament.  She closes the year ranked 15th in singles and 4th in doubles.  She was also named the 2014 ITA Region III Player to Watch as well as the ITA National Player to Watch.

Lopez and Coyos become the first Seward ITA All-Americans since Veronica Bansemer and Alejandra Miranda-Sanchez won the awards during the 2004 season.
