#13 Lady Saints Dominate Barton

#13 Lady Saints Dominate Barton

Despite a month long break since their last match, the #13 Seward County Lady Saints showed no signs of rust Saturday afternoon in Great Bend as they blanked the Barton Lady Cougars 9-0 in their first Jayhawk Conference dual meet of the spring.

Seward started their domination in doubles action.  The Lady Saints Argentinian duo of Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos, ranked 5th in the opening ITA rankings of 2014, had no trouble with Barton's top team of Karina Ono and Barbara Codognotto in #1 doubles, hammering them 8-1 to give Seward a 1-0 lead in the match.  In #2 doubles it was Kathryn Roohan and Jackie Arnold doing work for the Lady Saints, burying Omelia Thomas and Kelly Brauer 8-2 to put Seward on top 2-0.  Naomie Bukassa and Grace Golden complete the doubles sweep for the Lady Saints at #3 doubles, downing Courtney Irwin and Brittanie Eskut 8-6 in the closest doubles match of the day.

The Lady Saints were just as dominating in singles play.  Lopez earned Seward's first singles point with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Ono in #1 singles and Coyos had just about as easy of time with Codognotto, winning 6-1, 6-2 in #2 singles.  Arnold also didn't face much resistance in #4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Brauer to put Seward up 5-0 and secure the match win for the Lady Saints.  Roohan won the match of the day for Seward in #3 singles, playing a marathon with Thomas 2-6, 7-6 (5), 12-10 to put the Lady Saints in front 6-0.  Golden and Bukassa finished the sweep for Seward, both winning 6-4, 6-2 in #5 and #6 singles to give the Lady Saints a 9-0 victory.

Seward improves to 3-2 overall on the year with the win while they push their overall individual match record to 24-21.

The Lady Saints will now take another extended break before they hit the court again on March 29th when they travel to Hesston for another Region VI match with the Larks.
