Lady Saints fall at El Paso

EL PASO, Texas – The Seward County Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader to El Paso Community College, 5-2 and 5-1, on Sunday. The Lady Saints fell to 2-11 on the season.

 

GAME ONE

Miranda Nester went 3-for-4 and Nissy Lechuga and Jaci Oakley each had a pair of hits for Seward in the opening game loss.

Jordan Cordrey allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits, struck out two and walked four over six innings in a complete game loss.

After El Paso took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Emily Mojica tied the game for Seward with an RBI single. The Tejanas scratched out single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to open a 4-1 advantage.

The Lady Saints finally got on the board again in the top of the sixth when Oakley hit her first homer of the season to cut the deficit to 4-2. El Paso added a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead and finish the scoring.

 

GAME TWO

Nicole Nelson had an RBI single and Cassandra Esquibel and Madeline Owen each had a double in the nightcap loss for Seward, which managed only seven hits.

Alyssah Pontoja took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out one and walking four over six innings in the complete game effort.

El Paso took a 3-0 lead through four innings when Seward scored its only run of the game in the top of the fifth. Pontoja singled to start the inning, followed by an AJ Luna ground out and an Esquibel double. With runners on second and third, Nelson drove in Luna with a run-scoring single. The Lady Saints failed to score more runs as Miranda Nester popped out and Nissy Lechuga grounded out to end the inning.

The Tejanas added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cap the scoring at 5-1.
