Seward Finishes Frustrating Weekend 0-5

The Seward County Lady Saints wrapped up play at the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday with two more disappointing losses, dropping a 7-3 contest to Galveston before being blown out by Clarendon 15-2 in a run rule to end their weekend winless at 0-5.

The Lady Saints got action going on Saturday against Galveston.  The Whitecaps got on the board first , using a pair of walks and two singles to jump in front of the Lady Saints 1-0 in the top half of the 1st.  Seward answered right back though in their first at bats, putting three hits together in their half of the frame to plate a pair of runs and take a 2-1 advantage of their own.  The scoring continued in the 2nd as Galveston put together a big inning, scoring five runs on four hits and a pair of Seward County errors to retake the lead at 6-2.  A Whitecap error gave the Lady Saints a run back in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-3 and the scoring settled down from there as it remained a 6-3 game to the 4th when Galveston added another to push their lead to 7-3.  The Lady Saints bats shut down through the middle innings, managing just one ball out of the infield in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to keep it a 7-3 game in favor of the Whitecaps.  Seward gave themselves a chance in their final at bats in the 7th, getting a pair of singles to bring the tying run to the on deck circle, but a groundout ended the threat and the game as Galveston hung on to win 7-3.

Seward had a season high 10 hits in the loss while Galveston had 9 hits, but benefitted from 6 Lady Saint walks in the circle.  Hannah Lopez and Brittany Corrales each had 2 hits in the loss for Seward.  Jaidyn Mawhinney was collared with the loss on the mound for Seward, lasting just 1 1/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 6 runs.  Kelly Kearney came in from the bullpen and kept the game within reach, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 1 unearned run to finish it out.

SEWARD COUNTY/GALVESTON BOX SCORE

In their final game of the weekend, the Lady Saints looked to get into the win column as they took on the Clarendon Bulldogs.  Their hopes to do so quickly went South early on in the contest as Clarendon scored their first run of the game without even putting the ball in play and then proceeded to put together three straight singles to clear the bases and make it a 5-0 game in the 2nd.  Clarendon was back on the attack in the 3rd, once again using three Seward walks to score a run, followed by a sacrifice fly, a double, and a Lady Saint error to push four more runs across to quickly put the game out of reach at 10-0.  Seward couldn't get anything going offensively against Bulldog starting pitcher Ryata Daniel as it remained a 10-0 game in favor of Clarendon after 4.  In the 5th things got even uglier for the Lady Saints as the first five Bulldog hitters of the inning reached base to score a pair of runs and with two outs, a three run Clarendon home run made it a 15-0 game.  Seward scored two times in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't nearly enough as the run rule kicked in on the Lady Saints in a 15-2 defeat.

Seward was outhit 12-5 in the game by the Bulldogs.  Lopez and Callie Silvers-Harnly each had a hit and an RBI in the loss.  Kearney took the loss in the circle, allowing 4 runs, all earned, on just 1 hit while failing to get out of the 2nd inning.
