Lady Saints Can't Knock Off Undefeated Midland

In their toughest matchups of the 2015 seasons, the Seward County Lady Saints put together one pretty good effort and one not so great, but weren't able to get past undefeated Midland as the Lady Chaps took a 9-1, 8-5 doubleheader from Seward to drop the Lady Saints back to an even .500 on the season.

Midland struck early against the Lady Saints in game one of their doubleheader, getting a 1st inning home run to jump on top 1-0.

The Chaps added to their lead in the 2nd, belting another long ball and using a pair of singles to score three runs to stretch their lead to 4-0.

Seward got on the board for the first time in the top half of the 3rd inning as back to back Midland errors gifted the Lady Saints a run to cut the Chaparral lead to 4-1.

The Lady Saints had a chance to really put a dent into the Midland lead in the 4th as they put two runners on, but they were unable to push anything across and remained behind 4-1.

Midland added to their lead with a run in the 4th to make it 5-1 and scored two more on a two out double in the 5th to stretch their lead to 7-1.

Seward once again put two runners on in the 6th and once again left them stranded and the Lady Chaps made them pay, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning to force the run rule in a 9-1 Midland win.

The Lady Saints were outhit 13-4 in the defeat and didn't record an extra base hit in the loss.  Jaclyn Wagner took the loss in the circle, pitching the whole way for the Lady Saints, yielding 14 hits and 9 runs to fall to 4-2 on the year.

SEWARD COUNTY/MIDLAND GAME ONE BOX SCORE

The Lady Saints looked to rebound in game two of the doubleheader and jumped on top early, getting an RBI single from Summer White in the 1st inning to put them up 1-0 before Midland got a chance to hit.

The Seward lead didn't last long though as the Chaps struck back for a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead of their own.

Midland added a run in the 2nd to make it a 3-1 ballgame and opened things up with a four run frame in the 3rd to push their lead to 7-1.

Seward didn't roll over though and got two runs back in the top half of the 4th inning as Kolby Hamilton singled home a pair of runs with two outs to cut the Chap lead to 7-3.

The teams traded runs to 8-5 and the Lady Saints couldn't muster a comeback in their final at bats, getting just a one out single from Grace Petersen as far as baserunners in the 7th, leaving the tying run on deck as the game ended in an 8-5 Midland victory.

The Lady Saints managed 9 hits in the loss, getting 2 each from Hamilton and Kennedy BrunsonAlexa O'Brien took the loss on the mound for Seward, as she was unable to make it out of the 3rd inning while allowing 8 hits and 7 runs.
