Seward Manages Just 1 of 3 at Odessa

The Seward County Lady Saints struggled Friday against a pair of teams poised to make a run at the NJCAA National Tournament.  Seward took a 3-2 lead against Southern Idaho before being blown out 13-3 and split a double header with Odessa, winning 5-3 in game one of the doubleheader before falling 10-0 in game two to drop to 7-5 on the year.

Early on in their game with Southern Idaho, the Lady Saints and Lady Eagles mirrored each other, putting traffic on the bases without being able to squeeze across a run as the game was scoreless through two.

Seward got the scoring going in the 3rd, getting a three run home run off the bat of Danielle Orr to grab a 3-0 lead on the Eagles.

Southern Idaho got a run back in the 3rd on a one out double and used a two out triple to get another run in the 4th to make it a 3-2 game.

The Lady Saints bats went cold from there and CSI took advantage, scoring a pair of runs on sacrifice flies in the bottom of the 5th to go on top 4-3 and then blowing the game open with five two out runs to extend their lead to 9-3.

Seward went down quietly in the 6th and the Eagles walked the Lady Saints off the field in the bottom of the inning, getting a grand slam to force the run rule as Southern Idaho took the game 13-3.

The Lady Saints managed just 4 hits in the loss while Southern Idaho finished with 12 against Seward pitching.  Orr had two of the four Seward hits in the game and accounted for all three of their runs with the 3rd inning home run.  Alexa O'Brien suffered the loss for Seward in the circle, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 12 hits and 13 runs while walking 8 to fall to 3-2 on the year.

SEWARD COUNTY/SOUTHERN IDAHO BOX SCORE

Seward's cold bats carried over into their second game of the day as they took on the host team Odessa in the first game of a doubleheader.  The Lady Saints were scoreless through three innings of action, but thankfully for Seward, starting pitcher Jaclyn Wagner was on point, matching zero's with the Wranglers to keep it a 0-0 game.

Odessa scored first in the bottom of the 3rd on a Seward error to grab a 1-0 lead but the Lady Saints responded with a two run home run by Summer White in the top half of the 4th inning to grab a 2-1 lead of their own.

Wagner controlled the tempo the next two innings, keeping Seward in front 2-1 after five innings of play.

The Lady Saints offense rewarded their right hander with three more runs in the top half of the 6th inning as Grace Petersen and Kennedy Brunson singled while Megan Olsen walked to load the bases with one out.  A costly Odessa error emptied the bases, allowing in three Seward County runs and without a hit, the Lady Saints took a 5-1 lead.

Odessa got a solo home run in the 6th to cut the Seward lead to 5-2 and then another in the bottom of the 7th to make it 5-3, but that was all that Wagner would yield as the sophomore shut the door getting a strikeout and a fly out to end the game, giving the Lady Saints a 5-3 win.

Seward outhit Odessa 9-4 in the game, getting a 3 hit game from Petersen and a pair of RBI's from White in the victory.  Wagner improved to 4-1 on the year, going the distance in the circle for the Lady Saints, allowing just 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5.

After a quick 1-2-3 Lady Saints half of the 3rd, the Wranglers blew the game open, scoring five runs on just four hits to extend their lead to 6-0.

Seward was unable to muster any offense in the 4th and Odessa took even more advantage, scoring four more times in the bottom of the frame to go in front 10-0.

The Lady Saints got a one out double in their final at bats in the 5th, but they were unable to score and that was all she wrote as the Wranglers took a 10-0 final score.
