Seward County sweeps day two at Nationals

PLANO, Tex. - Seward County Community College sweeps day two of the 2021 National Tournament after receiving a bye on the first day. The Saints received a bye in all nine of the draws and came out on day two with six wins in the singles draws. The weather in Plano caused the tournament to move into the indoor facility on the campus of SMU. With only six courts available the tournament only could finish the scheduled singles draw matches for day two. The doubles draw will resume tomorrow weather permits. 

The Saints started the day with a Luciano Fisicaro victory 6-3, 6-1 over Marion Military Institute in the number one singles draw. Kyllian Savary followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jacksonville College in the number 2 singles draw. Mauri Gonzalez took care of business in his first match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mesa Community College in the number four draw.

Raul Centeno lost the first set 0-6 and had to battle back from one set down to Jacksonville College. Centeno found success at the net and won the second set 6-1 and led 5-3 in the third set when his opponent retired. Martin Abamu swept Jones County Junior College 6-1, 6-0 in the number five singles draw. Enzo Frequelin finished the day with a 6-0,  6-1 sweep over Wallace State Community College in the number six singles draw.

Seward County has advanced to the quarterfinals in all six of the singles draw and will have a challenging day tomorrow in search of a semifinal bid. The first matches will start at 8 AM and will be played either at SMU tomorrow or at Collin College if weather permits.
