#4 Saints Open Season With Drubbing of D2 Emporia State

The #4 Seward County Saints started their season with a bang Saturday afternoon in Eastern Kansas, blasting NCAA Division II's Emporia State Hornets 8-1 to open their 2016 campaign 1-0.
Action began with doubles play where Emporia State came up with the first point of the day with a 8-5 win at #1 over 4th ranked Przemek Zielinski and Ondrej Nice.  Seward bounced back with close wins at #2 and #3 as Carlos Anez and Tare Mariga teamed for an 8-6 victory and Ngoni Makambwa and Alex Mosehle went extra in a 9-7 win to put the Saints on top 2-1 heading to singles play.
Seward dominated singles play, sweeping action from #2 to #6 without dropping a single set.  In fact, the Saints had more 6-0, or 6-1 set victories (6) than they did anything else.  The match of the day came at #1 singles where Anez battled Paddy Cameron in his first dual as a Saint.  Anez dropped the first set 7-5, but bounced back with a 6-0 blanking in the second and a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker to make sure Seward brought home points in all six singles spots.
The Saints took the match 8-1 to pick up their first win of 2016.  Next up for Seward will be another slew of four year foes when they head to Dallas, Texas next weekend to take part in the Dallas Duals.
