The Saints fell to Barton 74-57 on Saturday afternoon

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Seward County Community College fell last Saturday at Barton Community College 74-57. The Saints battled early in the contest, but the Cougars went into halftime with a 37-31 lead and outscored the Saints 37-26 in the second half. Seward County is now 13-15 on the year 9-13 in the KJCCC and will host Hustinson on Wednesday for sophomore recognition night. 

Jaylin Henderson led the Saints with 15 points and four rebounds. Blessin Kimble had another double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds in the contest. Mario Whitley added 12 points and four rebounds. 

After a mid-range jump shot by Whitley, the Saints led 7-4 over the Cougars in the first half. Seward County took their largest lead in the game after a layup by Whitley gave them a 17-12 advantage. There were six lead changes as the Cougars took a 26-25 lead over the Saints with six minutes left in the contest.

Seward County got stuck on 25 as Barton went on a 10-0 run to lead 34-25. The Saints did not connect on a three-pointer in the first half, shot 34% from the field, and went into halftime down 37-31.

In the second half, the Saints trailed 43-31 after the Cougars started the half on a 6-0 run. The Saints connected on their first three-pointer at 12:30 as Dubinsky knocked it down to make it a 47-39 Cougar lead. Jaden Martin connected on a pair of free throws 49-41 at the 10:23 mark of the second half. Seward County trailed by double digits at the 4:23 mark, 67-52, as the Cougars started to take control. Seward County was outscored 37-26 in the second half as they fell to Barton on the road 74-57.

The Saints will return to action Wednesday in the Greenhouse for Sophomore night as they take on Hutchinson at 8 p.m. CT.
