Saints Road Woes Continue

The Seward County Saints dropped to 1-11 on the road this season Wednesday night in Colby, trailing the whole way in a 92-76 loss to the Trojans to seal their fate as the #15 seed for the upcoming Region VI Tournament with two games to go.

Things didn't start good and never got better for the Saints who fell behind 8-0 and 12-2 to begin the ballgame and faced a 21-5 deficit at the 13:00 mark of the first half.  Colby pushed their lead to 28-9 by the media timeout and fell behind by as many as 24 midway through the half before watching the Trojans take a 52-30 lead into the locker room at break.

Nothing much changed as the second half got underway as Seward remained down big at 63-42 seven minutes into the half.  Martavious Wilson tried to will Seward back into the game with his fourth three point play of the game midway through the period, but the Saints were still down 70-52 at the second half media break.  The Saints got to within 12 on a three from Malik Brown with 3:40 to go, but the clock ran out on the guys in green in the end as Colby finished off a 92-76 win to send the home folks home happy.

Three of the six Saints that saw action Wednesday posted career highs in scoring.  Wilson put up a career best 24 to go along with 8 rebounds while Jeromie Simmons had 15 and Ernest Carter dropped in 10 off the Seward bench.

Seward loses their 20th game of the season as they fall to 8-20 overall and 5-19 in Jayhawk Conference play where they are now guaranteed a last place finish in 2017.  Colby improves to 14-14 overall and 10-14 in league play where they remain in the hunt for a home playoff game with two games to go.

The Saints will go on the road on Saturday to take on Dodge City in their brand new Student Activities Center in a 3:00 matinee affair before wrapping up the regular season Monday at home against Garden City.
