No. 13 Lady Saints pick up a 3-1 road win over the T-Birds

CONCORDIA, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeated Cloud County Community College 3-1 on the road in Concordia, KS. The now No. 13 ranked Lady Saints improved to 26-5 on the year and remain in first place in the KJCCC with a 13-1 conference record. Seward County will host Pratt Community College on Saturday, October 22nd, for the sophomore night at 6:30 PM CT. 

The Lady Saints started with a strong offensive attack as they took an early 9-3 lead after a kill by Ana Cambraia that forced a Thunderbirds timeout. Cloud County came back to take the lead 11-10 over the Lady Saints after an 8-1 run. Seward County's offense struggled, with Cloud County taking their largest match lead, 20-12, in the first set. For the second straight match, the Lady Saints fell in the first set 25-18 and looked to climb out of the deficit. 

The home Concordia crowd started to get behind their team and created an intense atmosphere for the second set. Both teams exchanged points early in the sweet, and Seward County had a 9-7 lead after a kill from Seyun Park as they looked to separate themselves. After a 13-12 Lady Saints lead, Seward County added to their lead with three straight points, 16-12, that forced Cloud County to use a time-out. Seward County led 17-15, went on an 8-1 run to win the second set, and tied the match at 1-1.

In the third set, the T-Birds jumped out to a 6-2 advantage, but Seward County battled back to take the lead 8-7 after a hitting error on Cloud County. The Lady Saints continued to stay in front as they took a 13-12 lead and went on a 7-3 run to lead 20-15. Seward County went on to win the third set 25-17 after a Logan Dodge ace on set point, and the Lady Saints led 2-1 in the match.

A strong service by Logan Dodge continued into the fourth set as the Lady Saints started with a 5-0 advantage over the T-Birds. The Lady Saints continued to take control of the fourth set as they looked to finish the match with a 15-7 lead after a Kavlyn Giacomelli kill. Sarah Cruz had a strong kill from the back row to give the Lady Saints a commanding 22-10 advantage. Cruz went on to finish the match with a kill from the outside to win the fourth set 25-12.

Seward County will host the Pratt Beavers at 6:30 PM CT for Sophomore night in the Greenhouse. Come on out to show your support for this Saturday.
