No. 15 Seward County upsets No. 10 Polk State

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Seward County Community College upsets No. 10 Polk State in their first match of the CSN Coyote Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Lady Saints won in four sets, 25-17, 27-25, 20-25, and 25-20, on Thursday night. Seward County improved to 12-2 on the year and will take on No. 1 Florida Southwestern at 1 PM CT, followed up by No. 9 Utah State Eastern t 5 PM CT. 

The Lady Saints jumped to an early 16-7 lead over the No. 10 ranked Eagles and maintained a strong defensive effort. Polk State came back late in the set, but it was too late as the Lady Saints won the set 25-17. 

Seward County looked to continue their dominance with an early 5-2 advantage in the second set. After a run by the Eagles, the Lady Saints were tied at 11 all after a kill by Ana Cambraia. Both teams traded points, but Seward County led late in the set, 20-19, and pushed to a late second set victory 27-25.

In the third set, the Eagles jumped out ahead 12-11 early over the Lady Saints as Polk State looked to force a fourth set. The Lady Saints trailed 22-17 and faced their largest match deficit. The Eagles closed out the third set 25-20 as Seward County led 2-1 in the match.

Seward County started off the fourth set hot with three straight points, 3-0, which forced Polk State to use a timeout. With a 10-8 lead, the Lady Saints looked comfortable and ready to close the match. The Eagles battled back to tie it at 17 all later in the set, but the Lady Saints went on a 6-2 run to lead 23-19. Seward County closed out the match 25-20 and defeated Pokk state in four sets. 

The Lady Saints improved to 12-2 on the year and will take on No. 1 Florida Southwestern at 1 PM CT and then No. 9 Utah State Eastern at 5 PM CT.
