The Lady Saints fell 67-53 to the Red Ravens

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College fell short of Coffeyville Community College 67-53 on Wednesday night in the Greenhouse. The Lady Saints are now 9-9 on the year and 7-5 in the KJCCC. Seward County will get a bye this weekend and return to action on Wednesday, January 18th, against Pratt Community College at 6 p.m. CT. 

De'Shawnti Thomas led the Lady Saints with 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Tiana Winn had 10 points, and Ariana Escalante also provided nine points. 

Seward County jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after an Aragonez put-back layup early in the first quarter. After the media timeout in the first quarter, the Red Ravens took the lead 13-12 over the Lady Saints. After both teams exchanged baskets, Seward County and Coffeyville were tied at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Saints opened up the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 23-16 advantage over the Red Ravens with 6:30 left before halftime. Coffeyville matched Seward County's run to tie the game at 23-23 after a pair of free throws. Both team's offenses slowed down in the second quarter as the defense picked up. Once again, the game remained tied at the end of the quarter, 29-29.

The Lady Saints took a 33-31 lead over the red Ravens in the third quarter after a Thomas mid-range jumper. Coffeyville responded 7-1 run to lead 38-34 with three minutes left in the quarter. Thomas capped off a Lady Saints 5-0 run to tie the game again at 41-41, with under a minute left in the third. At the end of the third quarter, the Red Ravens took a 43-41 advantage over the Lady Saints with the final ten minutes left. 

The Red Ravens started the fourth quarter on a 7-3 run to take a 50-44 advantage over the Lady Saints. Seward County continued to trail Coffeyville and, at the six-minute mark, trailed 58-46. This was the first double-digit lead of the game for either team, and the Lady Saints looked to bounce back. Coffeyville took their largest lead of the contest with two minutes left to go 67-50 over Seward County. The Lady Saints could not make a last-second push and fell to the Red Ravens 67-53.

The Lady Saints will take on the Beavers from Pratt on Wednesday, January 18th, at 6 p.m. CT.
