Seward County fell short 82-79 at Hutchinson CC

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Seward County Community College falls short on the road at Hutchinson Community College 82-76. The Lady Saints entered the fourth quarter with a 58-57 lead, but the Blue Dragons connected on timely threes to claim the victory on Saturday night. Seward County is now 9-8 on the season, 7-4 in the KJCCC, and returns home on Wednesday, January 11th, against Coffeyville Community College. 

D'Arrah Allen led the Lady Saints with 27 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the contest. De'Shawnti Thomas added 18 points and seven rebounds, and Kylee Hunt had 10 points. 

The Lady Saints started the contest with a 5-0 advantage after a Keanna Coburn jump shot in the first minute of action. The Blue Dragons responded with a 6-1 run to cut the Lady Saints' lead down to one point, 7-6. Hutchinson took their first contest lead, 10-9, with four minutes left, but it did not last long as Allen regained the lead for Seward County, 11-10. The Blue Dragons tied the game at 15-15 with a three by Mya Williams as the quarter ended. 

In the second quarter, the Lady Saints and the Blue Dragons traded off baskets, but Hutchinson took a 23-19 lead with eight minutes left. With four minutes left before the break, the Blue Dragons took their largest lead of the game, 33-24, after a free throw. Seward County battled back and went into halftime down 39-38 with a last-minute three by Allen. 

A Kylee Hunt three in the third quarter tied the game at 43-43 with eight minutes on the clock. Tiana Winn gave the Lady Saints a 46-45 advantage, but the Blue Dragons reclaimed the lead 47-46 on the next offensive possession. The lead was exchanged nine times in the third quarter as the Lady Saints went into the fourth quarter with a 58-57 lead over the Blue Dragons.

Thomas connected on a jump shot at the six-minute mark to give the Lady Saints a 62-59 advantage in the final quarter of the contest. With 3:27 left, Hutchinson concluded a 10-2 run and led Seward County 69-64. After a pair of free throws by Coburn the Lady Saints trailed by three, 69-66, but the Blue Dragons kept the fighting Lady Saints off and finished the game from the free throw line. Seward County could not overcome the late deficit as Hutchinson claimed an 82-76 victory.

The Lady Saints will look to bounce back at home on Wednesday, January 11th, against the Red Ravens from Coffeyville.
