Lady Saints defeats the Mavs 76-47, Head Coach Ciochetto earns his 200th win

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Northwest Kansas Technical College 76-47 in the Greenhouse on Monday night to extend their winning streak to four. The Lady Saints are now 7-4 this season and 7-2 in the KJCCC, which puts them second in the conference behind Dodge City at 7-1. Head Coach Todd Ciochetto picked up his 200th career win, and the institution celebrated his accomplishment post-game with a gift bag and a video message from supporters. 

Halima Salat led the Lady Saints with 19 points, shooting 70% from the field, and provided two rebounds in the starting role. D'Arrah Allen had 13 points, Kylee Hunt added 10, and Bri Linear had eight points in the victory.

To start the contest, the Mavericks jumped out to an 8-0 lead after a field goal with 7:28 on the clock. Seward County' Allen connected on a pair of free throws to get on the board at the 5:30 mark in the first quarter. In the final minute, Allen tied the game at 12 with a three-pointer and brought the Lady Saints back into the contest. At the end of the first quarter, both teams were knotted at 12-12, and the Lady Saints closed the quarter on a 12-4 run. 

The Lady Saints took their first game lead 13-12 with a free throw by Nelly Madwald in the first minute of the second quarter. Seward County continued with a 13-3 run to take a 26-15 advantage over Northwest Kansas. After a layup by D'Arrah Allen, the Lady Saints took a 20-point lead, 38-18, with 1:44 left before halftime. The Mavericks concluded the quarter with a last-second layup as the Lady Saints entered halftime with a 43-25 lead. 

To start the third quarter, Northwest Kansas went on a quick 4-0 run to cut the lead to 43-29 at the eight-minute mark. Both teams struggled on the offensive side of the ball, with both teams scoreless for two minutes, with D'Shawnti Thomas connected on a mid-range jump shot to give Seward County a 46-29 advantage. Keanna Coburn went two for two from the free throw line to give the Lady Saints a 20-point lead again, 51-31. Seward County ended the third quarter with a 60-35 lead and continued their strong defensive efforts to keep Northwest Kansas at bay. 

In the fourth quarter, the Mavericks looked to make a final effort to get back into the contest with a 5-2 run to cut the Lady Saints' lead down to 22-points, 62-40. Seward County did not allow Northwest Kansas a single point in the final 2:30 of the contest as the Lady Saints went on to win 76-47.

The Lady Saints remain in second place and a half-game back from Dodge City with a 7-2 KJCCC record. 

Seward County will host the Seward County Basketball Christmas Classic on Friday, December 16th, and Saturday 17th, with Redlands, McCook, and Trinity Valley. Redlands will face Trinity Valley on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by the Lady Saints versus McCook at 6 p.m. CT. On Saturday, Redlands will face Trinity Valley, and Seward County will conclude the weekend against No. 6 Trinity Valley at 4 p.m. CT.
