Seward County falls in OT 74-70 to Garden City

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College fall in overtime against Garden City Community College 74-70 on Saturday, February 5th. The Lady Saints led 46-31 at the end of the third quarter but the Broncbusters outscored Seward County 29-14 to tie the game at 60-60 at the end of regulation. Seward County will head to Cowley College on Wednesday, February 9th to take on the Tigers at 5:30 PM.

In the opening quarter, the Lady Saint led 10-2 over the Broncbusters after a three by Zhane Thompson with 6:40 left in the quarter. Seward County had a 15-5 advantage with the final minute but Garden City connected on a three to trail the Lady Saints 15-8 going into the second quarter.

The Lady Saints lead was cut down to two points at 17-15 halfway through the second quarter. Both teams struggled offensively in the quarter as Seward County outscored Garden City 9-7 in the quarter to take a 25-17 advantage into halftime. 

Seward County came out in the second half to take a 29-21 lead over Garden City with 7:14 left in the third quarter. After a timeout by the Broncbusters, Garden City went on a 4-0 run to get back within four, 29-25. A pair of free throws by Sierra Lynch gave Seward County a 38-27 advantage in the final three minutes of the third quarter. Sydney Wetlaufer connected on three out of four technical free throws to take a 46-31 advantage at the end of the third quarter. 

To start the fourth quarter the Lady Saints took their largest lead of the game 51-33 with 8:51 remaining that forced a timeout by Garden City. Halfway through the quarter, Seward County led 53-40 as the Broncbusters went on a 7-2 run. After the Lady Saints took a 56-42 lead the Broncbusters 18-2 run to take the lead 60-58 with 20 seconds left. D'Arrah Allen drew a foul with three seconds left and connected on both free throws to tie the game at 60-60 and forced overtime. 

Seward County took a 65-63 lead with 2:45 left in overtime. With 13 seconds left Garden City connected on one free throw to lead 72-70 but after the missed free throw the Lady Saints' last-second floater was off the mark. Garden City closed out the game with a pair of free throws to claim the victory 74-70.

The Lady Saints were led by Sierra Lynch with 25 points and shot 50% from the field. Miyah Dubose added 11 points and two steals for the Lady Saints

Seward County will travel to Cowley to take on the Tigers on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
