The Lady Saints claim 7th straight win 67-61 over Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Seward County Community College's women's basketball program wins their seventh straight game with a 67-61 victory over Coffeyville Community College on Monday, January 31st. The Lady Saints were led by Halima Salat's 24 points and eight three-pointers that is ranked second all-time in program history. Seward County improved to 17-6 on the year and 13-4 in conference play. On Wednesday the Lady Saints will face off against the top-seeded Pirates from Independence Community College at 5 PM. 

The Lady Saints and the Red Ravens traded off baskets early as they were tied 9-9 halfway through the first quarter. Seward County went on to take a 16-15 lead on the final possession of the opening quarter.  

In the second quarter, Seward County started to separate themselves from Coffeyville s Miyah Dubose knocked down a three to give the Lady Saints a 27-22 advantage. Seward County went on to keep the five-point advantage at halftime with a 33-28 lead over Coffeyville.

The Red Ravens started the third quarter with a 15-0 run to take a 43-33 advantage over the Lady Saints. Seward County battled back to outscore Coffeyville 17-9 in the final five minutes of action to trail 52-50 heading into the fourth quarter.

With 4:44 left in the contest, the Lady Saints cut the Red Ravens lead down to 55-54. Halima Salat knocked in her seventh three of the game to tie the game at 57-57 with three minutes left. The Lady Saints led 63-59 with 44 seconds left after a pair of threes by Seward County. After a pair of free throws, the Lady Saints claimed the victory 67-61 over Coffeyville. 

Halima Salat led the Lady Saints with a season and career-high 24 points, and eight three-pointers. Sierra Lynch added 11 points, and D'Arrah Allen contributed nine points of her own.

The Lady Saints will be in action on Wednesday to take on the top team in the KJCCC the Pirates at 5 PM CT.
