The Lady Saints comeback from 24 down to win 63-60 over Dodge City

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Dodge City Community College 63-60 on a last-second three by Zhane Thompson. The Lady Saints trailed 28-4 in the second quarter and came back to take the lead with 0.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Seward County is now 15-6 on the season and tied with Hutchinson for second in the conference with an 11-4 KJCCC record.

Halfway through the first quarter Seward County trailed 10-4 to Dodge City as their offense struggled to start the game. The Lady Saints went scoreless for the rest of the first quarter as the Conquistadors led 21-4 in the Greenhouse. 

The Lady Saints faced their largest deficit in the second quarter as they trailed 28-4 to the Conqs. The Lady Saints cut the lead down to 30-14 after a Zhane Thompson three with 5:48 left in the quarter. Dodge City responded with a 9-1 run to lead 39-15 over Seward County. The Lady Saints closed out the second quarter with a 9-2 run as they headed into the locker room with a 41-24 deficit. 

A three on the left wing by Myiah Dubose had the Lady Saints down 44-29 as Dodge City continued to match Seward County. With 1:29 left in the third quarter, Halima Salat connected on a deep three to give Seward County some life as they trailed 49-36. The Conqs closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run to lead 54-39. 

With 7:10 left in regulation, Zhane Thompson connected on a three that got the Lady Saints within nine points, 54-45. Seward County made it a possession game after a D'Arrah Allen three that put the Lady Saints down just 59-56. With 47 seconds left Allen tied the game at 60 all from the free-throw line. After a defensive stop, the Lady Saints rebounded the ball and called a timeout with 15 seconds to go.

Sierra Lynch set up Zhane Thompson with a dribble handoff on the left wing and Thompson connected for the game-winning three with 0.8 seconds left. The Conqs were unable to score on their final possession and the Lady Saints completed the comeback to win 63-60.

Thompson had 17 points and three rebounds in the contest, and Allen matched her with 17 points of her own. Halima Salat had 15 points, and Hulda Joaquim had 13 rebounds for Seward County.

The Lady Saints will be back in action on Saturday in Concordia, Kansas to take on Cloud County Community College at 2 PM.
