The Lady Saints knock off No. 14 South Plains 76-56

LAKE CHARLES, LA - Seward County Community College's women's basketball team defeats No. 14 South Plains College 76-56 last Saturday on New Years Day in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Lady Saints improve to 9-5 on the season and will be back into conference play this week with a Wednesday night game at Barton Community College at 5:30 PM.

To start the game the Lady Saints took a 9-3 lead and had their offense on a roll early. Halfway through the first quarter Seward County had a 13-6 advantage and closed out the quarter on a 15-1 run to lead 24-7. 

In the second quarter, the Lady Saints took a 35-18 lead at 5:04 before halftime. South Plains made a push back before halftime as the Seward county lead was cut down to 10 points at 39-29.

The Texans cut the lead to single digits in the third quarter but the Lady Saints kept them away as they led 50-41 with three minutes left. Seward County took a 55-45 lead into the fourth quarter and looked to close it out in the final 10 minutes.

At the 5:45 mark of the fourth quarter, the Lady Saints had a 63-50 advantage. Seward County continued to grow their lead and took a 76-56 lead in the final minute to claim the victory. 

Seward County will get ready for the rest of their conference games with a matchup against the Cougars at 5:30 PM on January 5th.
