Lady Saints defeat Odessa 85-83 in Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, LA - Seward County Community College's women's basketball team defeats Odessa College 85-83 on early New Years' Eve game. The Lady Saints led for the majority of the game and held off the Wrangler's last-minute offensive surge to claim the victory in Lake Charles, Lousiana. Seward County improves to 9-5 on the season and will take on No. 14 South Plains tomorrow at 1 PM CT.

To start the game the Lady Saints had a 16-13 lead over the Wranglers with 4:52 left in the first quarter. In a very strong offensive battle in the first quarter, Seward County led 26-24. With 3:24 left in the second quarter, the Lady Saints held a 35-26 advantage over Odessa. The Wranglers responded with an 11-5 run as the Lady Saints led 40-37 at halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams came out of the break with less offensive output, and with 3:35 left in the quarter, Seward County had a 46-41 advantage. Odessa cut the lead down to 58-57 as the third quarter concluded and the Lady Saints entered the final quarter with the lead. 

Seward County kept their one-point lead with 5:04 left had a 71-70 advantage over Odessa. The Lady Saints and the Wranglers traded off baskets for the remainder of the quarter. Seward County trailed 80-79 but with 50 seconds left Zhane Thompson connected on a corner three to give the Lady Saints an 82-80 lead. Seward County closed out the game to win 85-83 after Odessa connected on a three as the buzzer sounded. 

The Lady Saints will compete again tomorrow against No. 14 South Plains in Lake Charles, Louisiana at 1 PM CT.
