Seward County claims a 101-75 victory at Northwest Kansas Tech

GOODLAND, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats Northwest Kansas Technical College 101-75 in Goodland, Kansas on Monday night. The Lady Saints improve to 8-5 on the season and 6-3 in conference play. Seward County enters the holiday break and will be back in action on New Year's Eve against Odessa College at 9 AM.

To start the contest the Lady Saints jumped out to a 9-4 lead over the Mavericks but the first quarter turned into a battle. Seward County faced their first deficit of the game as Northwest Tech. took a 20-19 lead with under a minute left in the quarter. A three by Sydney Wetlaufer gave the Lady Saints a 22-20 advantage at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Mavericks responded with the first two baskets and took their largest lead of the game 24-20 over the Lady Saints in the first minute of action. Seward County took command of the game and went on a 15-0 run to lead 37-24 over Northwest Tech. The Lady Saints kept the pressure and led 44-29 with 1:40 left in the half. Seward County took a 47-33 lead into the break against Northwest Kansas Technical College. 

Seward County continued to stretch their lead in the third quarter as they took a 57-39 lead over Northwest Tech. Halima Salat gave the Lady Saints a 24 point lead with a three-pointer as the Lady Saints held a 70-46 advantage. Seward County went into the fourth quarter with a 77-58 lead.

In the final quarter, the Mavericks connected on back-to-back threes to cut the Lady Saints lead down to 77-64. Seward County responded and went back up by 18 at 91-73 with 4:15 left in the game. Seward County scores a season-high 101-75 in the victory over the Mavericks.

Sydney Wetlaufer led the way for Seward County with a season-high 24 points. Hulda Joaquim and Zhane Thompson added 16 points apiece in their starting roles. 

The Lady Saints will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana to take on Odessa College at 9 AM on December 31st.
