Lady Saints set program record with 136-56 win over Neosho

Chanute, Kan. - Seward County Community College Women's basketball team sets a record in total points scored in a single game with a 136-56 victory over Neosho County Community College. Seward County improves to 9-3 overall and is currently tied for second in the Jayhawk West with Barton Community College. The Lady Saints made 19 three-pointers, shot 52 percent from the field, and had seven different players score in double digits. Sophomore Sierra Lynch led the way for Seward with a season-high 21 points, three steals, and three rebounds.

The Lady Saints offense was slow to start the game and trailed the Panthers 9-5 halfway through the first quarter. Sierra Lynch tied the game at nine all from the free-throw line and in the next possession, Lynch gave the Lady Saints an 11-9 lead with a field goal. Seward went on a 6-1 run to close out the quarter and lead 27-18.

In the second quarter, the Lady Saints started to separate themselves from the Panthers and it started with a three-pointer from Andrea Gray in their first possession. This was a continuous occasion throughout the quarter with Seward County made seven threes in the quarter and shot a perfect 100 percent from behind the three-point line. The Lady Saints outscored the Panthers 41-12 in the quarter and took a 68-30 lead at halftime.

For the third quarter, the red hot Lady Saints continued to pile it on with a 39 point third quarter, and their defense held Neosho to just 13 points. Seward County's full-court defense helped get easy baskets and ended the third quarter with a 107-43 advantage. With the fourth quarter still to play the Lady Saints were in cruise control to the road victory. In the fourth Seward County scored 29 points and held Neosho to 13 points to end the game with the program's best 136 points and held Neosho to 56.

Sydney Wetlaufer had 19 points, Sierra Morrow had 18 points, Andrea Gray had a career night with 17 points, and Zhane Thompson added 15 points off of the bench. The other double-digit scorers for Seward County were Miyah Dubose with 14 and Delma Zita added 11 points in her starting role.

Seward County will be back on the road on Saturday, March 13th to take on Pratt Community college at 5:30 pm.
