No. 25 Lady Saints dominates Dodge City 86-54

DODGE CITY, Kan. - Seward County Community College women's basketball team defeats Dodge City 86-54, to improve to 6-1 overall and in conference play. Sierra Morrow had a double-double with career-high 34 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and five blocks. The Lady Saints were back in action after a nine-day hiatus due to health and safety protocol. With a slow start against the Conquistadors, they found their stride in the second half to put the game away. 

To start the game the Lady Saints had a plethora of turnovers that the Conquistadors took advantage of to stay in the game. The Lady Saints had a 19-11 advantage after the initial 10 minutes of play. In the second quarter, Dodge City went on a run 9-0 run to jump up on the Lady Saints 23-22. But the lead did not last long as Morrow would get one of her four steals and went coast to coast for an and-one to get the lead back in Seward's favor at 25-23. This was the start of a 10-2 run for the Lady Saints as they close out the first half with a 32-25 lead. Seward turned the ball over 14 times in the first half and shot 26 percent from the field as they tried to shack off the rust.

The third quarter began with the Lady Saints jumping out to a big 41-29 advantage as they continued to speed up the game against the Conqs that forced turnovers. Seward outscored Dodge City 27-11 in the third quarter to take a 59-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Seward shot 40 percent from the field in the third quarter and started to let the game come to them. The lead continued to pile up in the fourth quarter with the Lady Saints taking their largest lead 77-44 after a three-pointer by Delma Zita with 5:22 left in the game.

Seward shot 35 percent from the field and connected on 11 three-pointers to claim the road victory over the Conqs. 

Seward County's other top scorer was Sydney Wetlaufer with 15 points and seven rebounds off of the bench. Madina Camara added seven points, Raneem Elbarky, Gina Ballesteros, and Sanaa Smith all had six points for the Lady Saints.

Seward will be back in action on Wednesday to take on Garden City Community College in the Greenhouse at 6 pm.
