The Saints prepare for the Mesa Holiday Tournament

MESA, Ari. - Seward County Community College prepares for the Mesa Community College Holiday Tournament at Mesa Community College. The Saints will start tournament play against the host Mesa Thunderbirds at 9 p.m. CT in the last game of the evening.

All games will be streamed through Mesa Community College Athletics website with live stats for all of the games this week. These games will also be aired on KSCB 107.5 all week long, as Kenny Hernandez will be broadcasting these games in place of Brock Kappelmann.

The Saints will take on Glendale or San Bernardino, depending on the outcomes of the two events. The tournament also features No. 19 Snow College vs. No. 14 South Plains at 3 p.m. CT and No. 1 Salt Lake vs. Central Arizona at 5 p.m. CT. 

The Saints are currently 7-5 on the season with a 4-5 KJCCC record to start the season. Seward County is currently on a two-game winning streak after a 74-71 over Northwest Kansas Technical College on December 12th. In non-conference games, the Saints are currently 3-0, with two victories over Trinidad State and a road victory over Western Nebraska.

The last time Seward County competed in this tournament was in the winter of 2019, as the Saints went 2-1 to claim third place. The Saints opened up the tournament with a double-overtime victory over Trinidad State 97-96 as Sam Henderson connected on a put-back layup with 1.9 seconds left. They took on South Plains in the tournament's semifinal but fell 62-58 to the Texans. Seward County finished the tournament with a 70-53 victory over New Mexico Junior College on the event's final day.

Seward County will start the tournament tomorrow against the Thunderbirds and look to build on their success. The Saints will take on Glendale or San Bernardino, depending on the outcomes of the two events.
