The Saints upset the No. 25 Grizzlies 61-58

LIBERAL, Kan. - Seward County Community College defeats No. 25 Butler Community College 61-58 in the Greenhouse on Wednesday night. The Saints snapped a four-game losing streak with the win and improves to 8-11 on the season, 5-8 in conference play. Seward County claims their first win over a ranked opponent this season and will travel to No. 23 Colby Community College on Sunday, January 23rd. 

The Grizzlies started the game three for three from the field to lead the Saints 7-0 in the first two minutes of action. Branton "Bee" McCrary gave Seward County the lead 13-12 after an And-1 layup with 11:36 left in the half. Seward County took their largest lead of the game 31-20 after a Taye Donald mid-range jumper in the final three minutes of the half. The Saints went into halftime with a 31-22 lead over the Grizzlies.

To start the second half Butler went on a 9-3 run to make it a one-possession game as Seward County led 34-31. Kevon Cooper provided an offensive rebound and a layup to give Seward County a 38-31 advantage over the Grizzlies with 14:08 left in the contest.

Taye Donald added two more for the Saints to give them their largest lead of the game 56-43 with 7:24 on the clock. The Grizzlies responded with a 12-2 run to cut the lead down to three points 58-55 with two minutes on the clock. Seward County's lead was cut to one point 59-58 in the final minute of action. McCrary connected on a pair of free throws with 41 seconds left to give the Saints a 61-58 advantage. Butler had multiple shot attempts from three-point range but Seward County held on to win 61-58.

Branton "Bee" McCrary led the Saints with 19 points, five rebounds, and shot 7-9 from the field.  Taye Donald added 14 points and six rebounds, Wilson Dubinsky added 12 points for the Saints.

Seward County will travel to Colby, Kansas on Sunday, January 23rd to take on the Trojans at 4 PM.
