Saints Tie with Broncbusters on the Road

Liberal, KAN. – The Saints wrapped up a four-game homestead this past Thursday and will now be on the road over the next five games and began that road trip on Wednesday against Garden City where the two teams fought tooth and nail and ended the KJCCC matchup tied 2-2 on the afternoon.

Seward County and Garden City went toe-to-toe Wednesday night where both teams entered the matchup seeking their first conference win of the season. Leandro Suarez made the first move for the Saints at the 29:00-minute mark, scoring the first goal of the game to give Seward County a 1-0 lead over the Broncbusters midway through the first half. A penalty by Garden City gave SCCC another opportunity to increase their lead, putting Zain Beg on the spot who quickly sunk in his penalty kick for Seward County's second goal of the first half with 0:55 seconds left in the first and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The second half went a similar way but was in favor of the opposite team in the Broncbusters as they managed to tie up the game behind two goals in the half. Despite constant solid defense and multiple saves from goalkeeper Bruno Mestres, Garden City was able to finally sneak their first goal of the game within the first six minutes of the second half. They followed their first goal with another midway through the half to tie the game at 2-2 between the Saints and Broncbusters. Neither team wanted to give the other the lead and both refused to let up on their defensive pressure and resulted in the game ending with a tie at 2-2.

Seward County record now sits at 2-2-1 on their inaugural season and a KJCCC record of 0-2-1. Suarez and Beg scored both goals for the Saints with eight different players attempting shots on goal. SCCC's defensive pressure kept the Broncbusters at bay, only allowing five shots on goal to be attempted and Mestres recording three saves in the game.

Seward County men's soccer will continue their five game road trip this Saturday as they head to Neosho County in non-conference action at 3:00 PM.
