16 Seward Student-Athletes Honored by NJCAA For Academics

Academic awards from the 2015-2016 school year continued to pour in for Seward County student-athletes on Thursday as 16 Saints and Lady Saints were honored with NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards as announced by the governing body.
63 Saints/Lady Saints Earn Way Onto AD Honor Roll

The 2015-2016 school year proved to be more than just a successful one on the court and in the fields for the Seward County student-athletes as Wednesday it was announced that 63 of 99 student-athletes made their way onto the Spring 2016 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Schwab Completes Terrific Trio by Signing at Wayland

The third and final Seward County Lady Saint sophomore waiting to determine her playing future signed on the dotted line Tuesday in the All-American Room at Seward County as middle hitter Lindsey Schwab followed in the footsteps of the Lady Saints other two sophs by signing at NAIA power Wayland Baptist University.

Lady Saints Duo Signs at Wayland Baptist

Coming off of a season in which they led the Lady Saints to their most Jayhawk Conference wins since the 1998 season, Seward County sophomores Alex Wood and Megan Sharratt signed on the dotted line on Wednesday, finalizing their commitment to Wayland Baptist University for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Saints/Lady Saints Put Together Outstanding Fall Semester in the Classroom

Along with winning at a regular clip, the Seward County student-athletes were also busy hitting the books this fall as Athletic Director Galen McSpadden released Tuesday his Fall AD’s Honor Roll which included 87 of 111 Saints and Lady Saints athletes. Seward student-athletes combined for a 3.31 overall GPA for the Fall semester with 9 earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Wood, Sharratt, & Viana Named All-Jayhawk West

Following one of the programs best seasons in recent memory, three Seward County Lady Saints were named to the All-Jayhawk West Team as announced by the conference Tuesday. Sophomore Alex Wood finished as runner-up to Hutchinson’s Aubrey Wilson for Player of the Year honors while garnering 1st Team All-Conference accolades, Megan Sharratt was named to the 2nd Team and Viviane Viana was an Honorable Mention All-Conference pick.
Lady Saints Come Up Just Short in Region VI Championship

It was a memorable season for the Seward County Lady Saints in 2015, but all good things must come to an end at some point in time and that time was Sunday night for Seward as they defeated Cloud County in Region VI Semifinal number two to punch their ticket to the title match, but fell to #20 Hutchinson in the Region VI Tournament Championship match to end their year one win short of a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Seward Sweeps Butler to Punch Ticket to Final Four

One season ago, the Seward County Lady Saints were in the nearly identical position that they were on Tuesday night in the Greenhouse. A decided favorite in their first round matchup with the Butler Grizzlies in the Region VI Tournament. But this year, unlike last year, the Lady Saints took care of business, smoking the Grizzlies 3-0 in front of their home crowd to advance to the Region VI Final Four Sunday in Hutchinson.

The 2015 NJCAA Region VI Tournament begins tonight here in Liberal as the 2nd seeded Seward County Lady Saints host the 7th seeded Butler Grizzlies in a one and done playoff match for the second straight season.
Viana Earns First Career KJCCC Player of the Week Award

After helping lead the Seward County Lady Saints to a second place finish in the Jayhawk West standings in the final week of regular season competition, Seward County’s Viviane Viana has been named the KJCCC Co-Player of the Week for the final week of October.
Seward Pinks Out Barton in Regular Season Finale

As expected, it was an emotional night for three Seward County sophomores on Thursday as they played their final Jayhawk West Conference match of their Lady Saint careers. The emotion ran over to the first set for Seward who hammered visiting Barton 25-18 in the first set and 25-11 in the second before holding on for a 25-23 win in the third to sweep the Cougars 3-0. The win gave Seward their 13th Jayhawk West win of the season, marking the most conference victories for the program since the 1998 season.

The 2015 regular season wraps up tonight in the Greenhouse as the Seward County Lady Saints host the Barton Lady Cougars in a Region VI Tournament tuneup for both sides. It is both sophomore night and Dig Pink Night in the Greenhouse tonight as we raise awareness for breast cancer as well as honor our three Lady Saint sophomores playing their final Jayhawk West Game in Liberal tonight.

Our sixth Above the Net feature, highlighting and written by a Lady Saints Volleyball player is from Alex Wood. Wood is a 5’10 sophomore outside hitter from Junction City, Kansas. She currently leads the Jayhawk Conference in kills on the season and ranks 9th nationally in the category. She has entitled her entry “Time is Running Out”.
Lady Saints Clinch Second in West With Win at Cloud

It was a quick start and a furious finish for the Seward County Lady Saints Monday night in Concordia, what happened in between the book ends didn’t end up mattering as Seward locked up second place in the Jayhawk West standings with a 3-2 win over Cloud County to improve to 12-3 in conference play on the season.
