Lady Saints beat Cameron to improve to 2-0 on season

LAWTON, Okla. – The fifth-ranked Seward County Community College women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a victory at Division II opponent Cameron, 4-3, on Friday.

The Lady Saints won three of the six singles matches and took two of three doubles contests to earn a single point and come away with the team match win at 4-3. Seward improved to 2-0 on the season.

In singles, No. 1 Patricia Panta, No. 2 Maria Aveiga and No. 4 Sofia Belluco led the way for Seward with victories. Panta and Aveiga each needed three sets for their wins. Panta defeated Sarah Frendo, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, while Aveiga rallied from a one set deficit to down Rebeka Velasova, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.  Belluco notched a victory over Alisa Savina in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.

In other singles, Alena Macharova lost to Sara Petric, 2-6, 3-6, Alisa Handrugan was beaten by Melany Opolz, 3-6, 2-6, and Eva Liu fell to Pilar Jaurena, 6-7, 0-6.

In doubles, Macharova and Belluco beat Savina and Frendo, 7-6, and Liu and Handrugan ousted Opolz and Jaurena, 6-4 while Panta and Aveiga lost to Petric and Velasova.

Seward hosts Cowley at noon on Friday at Blue Bonnet Park.
